1st Quarter Moon in Gemini | 2.27.2023

Watch the video HERE!

Welcome

This week is a middle-of-the-road kind of week, where we start the week in one month (February) but end the week in another month (March). Additionally, day one of this week is the First Quarter Moon in Gemini. And as I often say, Moons are optimal for goal setting, tracking, and manifesting. And before we go further into Moon in Gemini as a whole, I do think we should check in with our goal progress. There are two ways we can do this - on a larger, more bird’s eye kind of scale; and on a smaller, more granular kind of scale.

Let’s start by taking a look at the larger scale, the high level: Consider what kinds of goals we had in mind around the end of May last year, the progression of our goals we achieved around and compare it to the progression we’ve made thus far. That progression can look like re-alignment, it can look like an accomplishment, it can look like goal-refinement, it can look like releasing, etc. Maybe we’ve made moves, and maybe we haven’t. And if we haven’t, perhaps our next step is to identify “why.”

On a smaller scale, we can look at all of the moons we’ve experienced this year so far:

  • Jan 6 - Full Moon in Cancer

  • Jan 14 - 3rd quarter in Libra

  • Jan 21 - New Moon in Aquarius

  • Jan 28 - 1st quarter in Taurus

  • Feb 5 - Full Moon in Leo

  • Feb 13 - 3rd quarter in Scorpio

  • Feb 20 - New Moon in Pisces

And now February 27, 1st quarter in Gemini.

If we consider these phases as opportunities to check in with our goals (whether that means we’re setting the goals, or redefining the goals, or manifesting the goals, etc.), based on those check-ins and our current reality, what is our current progress with our goals? What habits can we form to ensure added or continual success and achievement? In what ways will these goals benefit us? Do we even still want these goals? Do these goals reflect the future we aspire for? Are our goals still in alignment with the person we are becoming? Do the intentions we set reflect us? Or do they reflect what society taught us? Do they satisfy us or our parents? Our family? Are they fulfilling to us, or to the parameters as defined by the social constructs we were born into?

1st Quarter Moon

1st quarter moons are more popularly known for times of “action.” For some context…During the new moon we decide what our goal or intention was, and during the first quarter moon, we take action on that goal or intention. We have the energy to take those first steps and the opportunity to do so.

In reference to the phases, the New Moon always sets the pace for the axis we are operating out of. Currently, with the most recent New Moon in Pisces on February 20, we are in the mutable axis, and as such, the first quarter moon lies in Gemini, which also happens to be first mutable sign of the zodiac chart (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). As is the case, signs of the same modality square each other. Thus, mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) are signs that square each other. As a result, 1st quarter moons are a time when the sun and the moon are squaring one another. And a square is when 2 planets are at 90-degree angles to the other. Square aspects are not widely known to be “favorable” aspects - because they essentially are at odds with one another.

So this kind of energy is unsettling. Think of the two planets demanding attention, and wanting things their way. One particular way is to be super involved and the other way is to be quite detached. And we naturally keep getting thrust from one into the other. Like a very restless kind of vibe.

In Aspects and Personality, by Karen Hamaker-Zondag, Karen comments that when the Sun and Moon are squaring one another, enough tension is achieved resulting in the question of “who am I?” Of course, her comments and insights are mostly regarded towards a person’s chart, as opposed to a general look at the sky, but I think this can still apply even on the most general of levels. When we set goals, we’re theoretically setting them because they are ideally what we want…but are they? Again, going back to those questions we looked at just a few slides ago:

Do the intentions we set reflect us? Or do they reflect what society taught us? Do they satisfy us or our parents? Our family? Are they fulfilling to us, or to the parameters as defined by the social constructs we were born into?

First Quarter phases are fascinating times, and truly times of opportunities because they can help us identify our wants - if we use them. In the same resource, we also have the quote, “Conscious behavior (sun) conflicts with the behavior needed to give a sense of security (moon), thus feeling unsettled.”

If we can mesh our wants and our needs, our behavior and our attitudes, our soul and our mindset, etc., if we can begin the process of stepping further towards alignment, the closer we can be in achieving our goals and attaining success. So in this first quarter phase, GET unsettled. Get rattled. Get energized. And TAKE ACTION.

Moon in Gemini

We may or may not recall that the Moon is this ever-shifting powerhouse, indicative of the more subtle and yet reactive energies related to our sense of security, our intuition, and our primitive emotions and experiences. It is the fastest-moving planet out of the astrologically defined planets and helps us identify those subliminal energies that may be present for the day.

As we know, this first quarter Moon is in Gemini, a mutable air sign. And when the Moon is in Gemini, we might feel the undercurrent desire to “...try to satisfy a need for security by taking brisk action, by using the mind, and by connecting one thing with another: the mutable cross makes [us] keen to bring facts and opinions into line with one another whenever matters have become tense, while the element air encourages [us] to do so by means of communication and discussion.” Planetary Symbolism 91 KHZ

“...In uncertain situations, Moon in Gemini will try to gain safety by supplying information in an impartial but lively manner, or by communicating in whatever way seems most appropriate.” (91)

Let's feed the facts straight: The Geminian Moon is always a time of curiosity, of observation, of higher intrigue or amplified interest, a touch of intelligence, of social behavior and interest in contacts. It’s typically a mentally active time. We might find ourselves nourished by mental stimulation, by socializing, by abstract thought, by thought-provoking ideas, by the exchanging of theories.

In Luminaries, Howards Sasportas speaks to this. He mentions that if Moon in Gemini had a “Let Us” statement, it would be, “Let us Communicate and exchange information.” And he continues, “...they usually feel more comfortable and at home when they start talking with people and making connections with others.” And of course, there are more: “They may want to impress you with their knowledge on a wide range of subjects. The Moon in Gemini also likes to observe, almost a voyeur who enjoys drawing conclusions or making deductions from what it sees. These are the sorts of things that instructively make them feel secure or included.” (73).

Moon aspects

This First Quarter Moon in Gemini is a bit different, however, because it’s also being touched on by Venus in Aries, Jupiter in Aries, Mars in Gemini, and Chiron in Aries. And these planets are adding their own spices in accordance to when they make their appearance. Venus and Jupiter hit quite early in the day, starting our day on a benign, sweeter kind of note, giving us the pep in our step; and likely helping us begin our tread into the restless waters of the first quarter moon in Gemini. I truly think that Venus and Jupiter are helping the transition into this more actionable state - bringing in luck, harmony; bringing in the positivity, the balance, the generosity and faith. And as the day continues, so too does the joy and luck and sweetness of Venus and Jupiter fade, and quite on point, we strike up with Chiron. And Chiron, I think, is going to amplify our assessment of that question - Who am I? It’s going to emphasize the evaluation of whether our goals, our intentions, our desires actually reflect US and our wants and the direction we wish to head towards. We have some time to really ponder this, and feel into this. And it’s actually a blessing because by the end of the day, we come to a close with Mars at our bedside. And if we’re up for it, we can utilize the help of Mars to be driven forward toward action. We’re already feeling the restlessness stirred up by the first quarter moon, and let’s face it, Gemini as a sign in and of itself is already restless as it is, and adding Mars to the mix, we’ve got the perfect dough mixture needed to really buckle down and get to WERK. We have officially stepped into the first quarter phase of this period of time, and the time for action is NOW.

1st Q + Moon in Gemini.

So how do we tie this information altogether as a whole on a general level?

We know we are intended to take action. We know we’re likely going to want to assess and evaluate our goals to ensure they align with us early on, and then as the day progresses, feel the drive to jump into action; we also know that the Gemini Moon is a curious, intellectual, conversational, observational, social, and thoughtful kind of Moon that is nourished by all of these same things. But how does it tie together?

Well folks, it is likely that because we are experiencing this First Quarter Moon in the sign of Gemini, our form of action is to be more of a MENTAL kind. Depending on what our goal is, maybe we are using this first quarter moon to make the connections we need to make (whether that’s social connections or even connections on how to tie this goal with a bigger picture goal). Maybe we are in need of taking action on marketing ourselves for the goal. Maybe we are in need of taking action on gathering facts, gathering more info, collecting more information, learning a bit more, observing and experiencing a bit more, asking more questions, being more curious about different ways to think about it, being more thoughtful about different approaches and perspectives, etc.

You have a goal - and maybe it’s new, but also maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s one you’ve been sitting on. And maybe it’s time we need a new approach. This first quarter Moon in gemini can help us be a bit more abstract in our approach. Action doesn’t always have to take on physical, fast-action kind of form. It doesn’t always look like a sprint. Sometimes it’s a slow form of reading. Sometimes it’s thoughtfully writing 5 things that took an hour long to write. Sometimes it’s having multiple conversations to get feedback. The real question is - how can you apply what you understand about the Moon in Gemini to help you take action on your goals?

Now have a decent understanding of the first quarter moon in Gemini, let’s see how this will play out for the signs! But before we do, of course, we have our friendly disclaimers:

This is a general look - always take all that is said with a grain of salt, you are in charge of your life, I do not have your persona chart in front of me, and I do not know how the planets will interact with your chart, and so this is very very much entirely general. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t. Please compare all information with your personal chart, always double check my own work, always refer to your own trust astrologer, please certainly refer to your rising sign - that is how horoscopes are created after all (I really need to make a video on this, hehe), and if you have any questions, please do reach out).

Houses

And just a heads up - I’ve phrased these horoscopes in the form of a question because instead of me telling you what to be or do, I want to help empower you to decide and determine that for yourself (of course with astrological guidance). We will begin with Gemini, and then move from there in zodiacal order. Let’s begin.

  • Gemini (1):

    • How will you embody this goal? In order to fully sprout our goal into manifested form, we must first plant the seeds. Goals begin in the mind. They are thoughts. Dreams drawn by heartfelt desire. But still, they exist in the mind. They are mental constructs. And if anyone has ever taken the time to study goals, you might know that no matter how much physical action you put towards a goal or building a habit, until you’ve embodied the mindset behind the goal or habit, it *will fade. That’s why people often eventually fall off the bandwagon they’ve originally started strong on. So, in what ways can you fully embody this goal. In what ways can you reframe your mind so that your thought process and perspective paves the way to the proper approach necessary to encompass the mindset necessary to achieve success? Use this first-quarter moon in Gemini to identify how you can fully embody and encompass the mindset needed to truly get behind your goal. 100% behind your goal. So that you are absolutely dedicated, and without a doubt on the path to fruition. Because this goal that we embody will ultimately affect and impact the direction we take towards our overall future. Towards our overall destination as a person, as a career, and as our mark in the world. With the Sun’s placement in Pisces, there is deep hot water flowing within the realm of our reputation, and how the world understands us. So using this first quarter moon, taking the opportunity it’s extending to truly embody the goal that we have to further our own success, will actually help pave the way to the future impression the world sees us as, and the title the world graciously pins onto us.

  • Cancer (12) square venus, jupiter, chiron

    • How can we channel best practices for our goals? How can we fully tap in and ensure we are approaching our goals in the best way that is alignment with our being so we are going at this the best way for our soul? So that we stay on track? So that we do this from a place of honesty, from the heart? And with integrity. So that we aren’t trying to come at this with someone else’s approach in mind, but that we actually are thoughtful of “how would I do this?” Forming that bond with a level of thoughtfulness extended towards ourselves as the teacher. The Sun in Pisces has been a time of subtle focus on learning from others - learning new things, expanding into new areas of interest, foreign discoveries, identifying new practices, interests, etc. Now that we’ve possibly gotten a glimpse of that, we can use that of which we may have learned or picked up (whether consciously or unconsciously), take what most resonates with us, blend it in with our soul so that it’s an amalgamated mix of truth that we can begin learning from. Meditating on our own words and our own teachings; our own approach, and channeling and downloading our own understanding. How would WE do it. And then taking that approach.

  • Leo (11) sextile moon + mars; trine venus, jupiter, and chiron

    • How are your friends and social groups influencing you? Consider if your social groups are supportive of your goals, and influencing you in the right way so that you accomplish your goals. No one is more like us than our group of friends and those social groups we are a part of - we are with them for a reason after all. This may be the time to open up and share (with some excitement) a goal or two we have that we’re working towards. Communicate it, share it out, see their thoughts, see if anyone is working on the same thing, and get an accountability buddy. But also, notice if anyone is not supportive, and be mindful of anyone that doesn’t seem to influence you in the right way. Our friends and social groups should always be supporting us, and if that isn’t happening, play with perspectives, and try to see from the different sides, but ultimately, we may need to take action on who we are surrounding ourselves with.

  • Virgo (10) square moon + mars

    • Thoughtfully consider how your goal can affect or impact the impression the world has of you. How will the world see you as a result of you achieving (or not) achieving your goal? How will you be perceived? Is it how you want to be perceived? And are the goals you have a result of what you think you’re supposed to be - or a result of what you really want the world to see you as? For example, if you want the world to see you as thinner, is that because you being thinner truly is in alignment with other goals and dreams and your true character, or is it because you assume that that’s just the expectation? Is your goal to have more money because that’s in alignment or because you assume that’s what you think the world wants to assume of you? Your goals will impact how the world sees you, the reputation you have, the title you hold in the world - no matter how large or small. You should always be proud. Play with the different perspectives and feel it out in all abstract levels, and ensure you are pursuing all things because they are in alignment with your wants and desires. Considering the Sun is in a fellow mutable sign, Pisces, and where that sits within our own chart, we might have better luck accomplishing this overall by referencing a close partner, a close coworker, a lover, a close friend, etc. to help us see the parts of us we are not seeing. Many times those who are so very close to us - our best friends, our partners, our lovers, and so on, know the parts of us we struggle to see ourselves. And so while we may *think we WANT something, we really don’t. And they are the perfect people to cross-check info with.

  • Libra (9) trine moon + mars; sextile venus, jupiter, and chiron

    • How can we link our goals with more philosophical or contemplative topics? How can we link our goals with deeper concepts? Look - we are deep creatures at the end of the day. We have a conscious, and a subconscious, and an unconscious - and at this point, that’s all we know about, but we likely have even more than that, just not awake to it just yet. And it’s so very possible that our very simple and seemingly benign goal is actually connected to something even deeper than what we think. Our desire to “lose weight” could actually be connected to something deeper within our subconscious that we are unaware of. Let’s get thoughtful. Let’s actually go deep within ourselves. Let’s ask ourselves the questions. Let’s get philosophical with ourselves. Why are we doing what we’re doing? Why are we pursuing what we’re pursuing? Are we led by society? We know we’re doing it out of alignment - but is that because we are creatures of free will or did God want that for us? Who’s “will” are we following? What philosophies are we wanting to follow? Get silly. You’ll learn more about yourself as you do.

  • Scorpio (8)

    • How can the goal we have benefit other people? Additionally, can this goal become a resource for others, or perhaps the benefits of achieving this goal will somehow, in some odd domino effect, become a resource for others? By achieving this goal, will it somehow nourish others? I know these questions sound a bit silly, and before I continue with my tirade of questions, I want to give a bit of an example to explain that YES your goal actually can benefit others and nourish others, regardless of how selfish it may or may not be or appear. A person has a goal for their business income to be 100k monthly. Some might see that as selfish. But is it really? Because of achieving that goal, that person will open job opportunities potentially with great benefit packages; they may open funds, scholarships, may donate, may create programs to help others; they may support their family and friends, who then, now having resources of their own as a result, can help their family and friends, and so on and so forth; they may become an example or influence in their community, touching that ONE person’s heart who then grows up believing in possibility, and on and on it goes. Sounds like a fairy tale, I know, but it’s not. Because it’s the story of MANY of my mentors. They are those same people. With a simple, seemingly selfish-sounding goal, and yet giving SO much. Let’s continue with the questions yeah? So, how can we use this goal - once we have achieved it, attained it, accomplished it - for the better? How can we benefit others with it? And even better, how can we use our current action steps to benefit others? How can we use our preliminary steps to help and influence others? Perhaps we communicate our goals, perhaps we share on social media what our goals are and the action steps we are taking; maybe we share our influences, maybe we share our thoughts, maybe we divulge our research, etc. We might find that by mentally exploring how our goals can help others actually propels us that much more forward. Remember that the Sun is in our sister sign, Pisces, and it is telling us nothing if not to create. If not to tap in to our inner child. If not to express ourselves in the ways that we enjoy the most. If that means simply just *dreaming of how your goals can help people, then so be it! Or maybe it’s time to see how your goal CAN help others by getting creative with it all.

  • Sagittarius (7) square moon + mars; trine venus, jupiter, and chiron

    • How can this goal bring you closer to being whole? Why do you even have this goal? In what way will achieving this goal bring us closer to alignment? We all have a reason for wanting our goals. And if you got through the first portion of this lecture, you know that ensuring the goal is in alignment with our soul is step one. And if you’re still here, then that means the goal is in alignment. So why is it in alignment? Clearly, it’s necessary for you to feel whole. For you to be whole. Why is that? Interestingly, I don’t know many who ever take the time to pause and mentally consider why they have the goal they have. And why should they? It’s a feeling. It’s an inner desire. It’s a “knowing.” It’s a whole-body-fuck-yeah kind of concept. But there is also rationality behind it. And if we can muster up the logic of it, we can further understand ourselves. We can further get to know ourselves and get to understand ourselves on a deeper level. Even if it’s on a more abstract plane. Keep in mind that the Sun is in our fellow mutable sign, Pisces. And with it’s placement in our chart, there’s a subtle focus bringing us down deep into our roots. We are all ruled and driven by our subconscious. And our subconscious is like this rainforest that is filled with everything from our life and before. It has been proven that traumas can be passed on within DNA. When we hear concepts like healing our lineage - it’s a real thing. We are healing our ancestors. And that includes the pressures they encountered. Allow yourself permission to truly explore your goals and consider if some originate from ancestral roots. Or on the alternative side, perhaps your goals are the lived-out destiny of your ancestors, and you are the manifested form bringing them into fruition.

  • Capricorn (6) square Venus, Jupiter, and Chiron

    • What are you daily dumping into your brain? And how are your daily mental habits making or breaking your goals? Do you need to adjust your mental consumption? What are you watching on tv? Scrolling through on social media? Playing on your phone? One of the best words of advice was from Brennan O’Keefe - married to my mentor Kathrin Zenkina. He told us (us being my fellow peer mentors of Manifestation Babe, when we were on a retreat together for Manifestation Babe), how Kathrin never goes ON social media, but instead USES social media. Social media is her JOB. If she ever goes on it, it’s for influence, for reference material. And it’s short lived. Otherwise, she’s only ever on there to post. To share material. She never is just *on there. Another interesting story. In one of the courses I took while in college, I learned about how there was a study done regarding brain waves in tandem with a person watching TV. Turned out that when a person watches TV, their brain waves are exactly the same for when a person is sleeping. We lose countless hours of mental activity and TIME lost in the white noise of TV, of social media, of it all. What is your white noise? And what changes do you need to make so that you are spending your time wisely and getting your goals DONE. With the Sun in Pisces benefitting us in the chart, we might do well be going into our community - maybe go to park in your neighborhood and meditate there, or get some work done in the coffee shop around the corner. Perhaps take a stroll around the farmers market, or explore some new neighborhoods. Get away from what is familiar. Recalibrate that brain. Find what works and what doesn’t work. It might not be such an extreme shake-up that’s needed. Just a small trip away.

  • Aquarius (5) trine moon + mars; sextile venus, jupiter, and chiron

    • How can we really apply ourselves in this goal so that we add a level of expression? If this goal is truly in alignment with who we are, then it means we fully embody it. To fully embody it, we must have the right mindset to support it. And adding a form of expression can certainly assist in gathering the right mindset necessary for the embodiment practice. Approach this goal in a new way - probe at it from abstract levels, creatively diving in, engaging with it from different mental spheres, and seeing where you can truly make it your own unique concept and creation. Goals, of course, typically start as universal concepts. “I want to get fit,” “I want to start a podcast,” “I want to get a boyfriend,” “I want to make more money,” etc. But that’s not really personable. And if it’s not personable, then it’s not really something in alignment. The more personable it is, the more attainable it becomes. Because the more real it is. The more matter of fact it is. It’s only real if it’s already yours. Which it is.

  • Pisces (4) square moon + mars

    • How can this goal objectively bring us a sense of fulfillment and bring us back to ourselves? It’s so easy to do things that remind us of “old” times. We romanticize the past. We think fondly of the past. We can have the best or worst time of “before” and no matter what, we want to go back…it’s like we get stuck. Our ego’s get so scared. Of what *can be. Of what’s ahead. Of the potentiality of what’s before us now. Or what is available to us in the here and now. And this is why goals are so key. Because they can help us overcome our ego and jump leaps and bounds. Particularly when our goals are in alignment with our soul. So first and foremost - How can we gently but constructively sidestep our ego? How can we ensure we respect our ego but we don’t give in to our ego? How can we be sure to prioritize our goals? Secondly - is our goal in alignment with our soul? And if it is, how can we objectively and abstractly approach this so that it brings us a sense of fulfillment? How can we mentally approach this in such a way that it brings us back to ourselves? So that our end goal IS realignment? So that mindfulness is achieved? How can we, mentally, become whole with ourselves? And how can this goal help with that?

  • Aries (3) sextile moon + mars; conjunct venus, jupiter, and chiron

    • How can we thoughtfully adjust our environment so that we are supporting our goals? Maybe we’re sharing it on social media, maybe we’re telling our friends, maybe we’re not going to particular events, maybe we’re refraining from particular conversations or pressure points? Being mindful and thoughtful of the environments we surround ourselves in can be key in how we set ourselves up for success. Mindset is everything, but mindset can fail if we are in pressure-filled environments. Additionally, our environments can shape up our own perspective. Mentally explore how your environment is shaping your own perspective on things, and identify if the environments you surround yourself with will support or hinder your goals. Then take action accordingly! And if you need to change anything up, *communicate! Give people a chance, give your environment a chance. Communicate your needs. You might be surprised.

  • Taurus (2)

    • What are we currently letting take up mental space that no longer *needs to take up mental space? What might we be holding onto mentally that no longer needs to reside in our minds? Whether a memory, a distraction, a fantasy, a daydream, etc. - there may be something that we are enabling to interfere with our focus, effectively blocking us from taking action on our goals. We may very well be allowing ourselves to get lost in the land of distraction, and as a result, wasting our mental resources. It would be in our best interest if we used this first quarter moon to first take stock of our mental resources as a whole, our mental skills and talents - maybe it’s our keen ability to be quick-witted,, maybe we’re fast on our feet with research, maybe we have a knack for always being able to find facts; perhaps we always tend to just *know where things are, what inventory is on hand (even though we don’t own said inventory), or maybe we’re able to connect information quickly. It could even be that maybe we’re super sociable and can find the right people for the things needed, and with our unique charm, sway the perfect social connections (even virtually). Take stock of those inner resources, and shed away those distractions. Considering the Sun’s position and its benefiting energy, we might find some inspiration or influence from friends, associates, or even social media. So if you’re feeling stuck or lost in the muck of distractions, you know where to go!

And there we have it!

Please remember to take these scopes with a grain of salt. Consult an astrologer for how each transit will affect your personal chart. Just by having your rising sign at a particular degree can entirely change where this energy will present itself in your chart. Not to mention what all of the planets are doing and how that chemically reacts with your own personal placements.
